What is CP? The Cambridge Primary Programme from University of Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) develops English, Mathematics and Science skills in young children across the world. It gives children excellent preparation for secondary education.

Designed for children aged 5 – 11, the Primary Programme provides learning objectives for each year of your child's primary education.

Its step-by-step programme of learning takes children from the start of primary education to completion, before they move on to secondary education.

The Cambridge Primary Programme helps schools, teachers and parents gain a greater understanding of their children's abilities, and give teachers invaluable information to help guide children in the following year.

Tests

The Primary Programme testing structure allows teachers and parents to:

  • Track the progress of their students
  • Identify strengths and weaknesses within individuals and in groups
  • Develop further teaching and support learning using information from test results
  • Use test results to report to parents

Types of Tests

  • Progression Tests:
CIE have produced the Progression Tests as an assessment tool for teachers to use within their classrooms to measure the progress of their students and identify strengths and weaknesses.

There are Progression Tests for Mathematics, English and Science for Stages 3 to 6.

These tests allow teachers to prepare their students for the Cambridge Primary Checkpoint and provide a 'bridge' that allows continued monitoring of students' progress at the transition from primary to secondary education .The teachers mark the tests; full mark schemes and marking guidance are provided for this.

  • Cambridge Primary Checkpoint:
This test is designed for students at the end of their final year of primary education. Cambridge Primary Checkpoint offers feedback on a learner's strengths and weaknesses in the key curriculum areas of English, Mathematics and Science, the tests are marked by CIE and the school is provided with an external international benchmark for learners' performance.

Statements of achievement are issued to students. The tests are available in May and November each year.
